Spam and Online Abuse Practices: A Detailed Guide

The internet, despite being a vast space for communication and information, is also subject to malicious practices that harm the user experience and the integrity of the platforms. Among these practices, spam and online abuse stand out, which manifest themselves in various ways, from repetitive videos to elaborate scams. Below, we detail some of the most common practices and their impacts:

1. Spam video It consists of the repetitive publication of irrelevant, deceptive or low-quality videos, with the aim of generating views, clicks or directing traffic to other sites. This practice not only pollutes the platform with useless content, but can also be used to spread false information or promote products and services of dubious quality.

2. Misleading thumbnails or metadata Use of false or exaggerated thumbnails or descriptive information (metadata) to attract users to videos or posts. This practice deceives the user, who expects to find content different from what is presented, generating frustration and distrust.

3. Scams Attempts to deceive users to obtain personal information, such as passwords, bank details or document numbers, or to induce them to make payments or false investments. Scams can be conveyed through videos, posts, comments or private messages, and often take advantage of situations of vulnerability or the naivety of users.

4. Phishing links Links that direct to fake sites, which disguise themselves as legitimate pages, such as banks, social networks or online stores, with the intention of stealing personal data from users. Phishing links can be sent by email, instant messages or posts on social networks, and often have grammatical or design errors that may indicate their falsity.

5. Incentive spam Repetitive and insistent requests for likes, subscriptions, comments or shares, without offering in return relevant or valuable content for the user. This practice, in addition to being irritating, can be used to manipulate metrics and artificially increase the popularity of a channel or profile.

6. Comment spam Repetitive publication of irrelevant, generic comments or with spam links in posts of other people, with the objective of divulging products, services or channels, or simply to disturb the discussion. This practice harms the quality of online debates and makes it difficult to identify relevant comments.

7. Abuse of live streams Inappropriate use of live streams for malicious purposes, such as dissemination of inappropriate content, hate speech, harassment or spam. This practice can cause psychological harm to victims and damage the reputation of the platform.

8. Abuse of link creation Creation of misleading, irrelevant or low-quality links, with the aim of manipulating traffic or the ranking of sites in search engines. This practice harms the quality of search results and can lead the user to malicious sites or with irrelevant content.

9. Abuse of shortening resources Improper use of link shorteners to hide malicious or spam URLs, making it difficult for the user to identify the destination of the link. This practice increases the risk of the user being directed to dangerous sites or with unwanted content.

It is essential to be aware of these practices and report them to the platforms, to contribute to a safer and more pleasant online environment. By following the guidelines and policies of the platforms and using common sense, it is possible to avoid falling into scams and protect your personal data.
